Jones heeds call for champion
Labour leadership contender Shane Jones says Labour needs to remember it is the people’s party.
Mr Jones attended yesterday’s rally in Auckland against planned changes in employment law.
He says the number of Maori workers at the rally shows they understand how the changes will affect them and their whanau.
They are also facing changes to the justice system that will disproportionately affect Maori, and to the Resource Management Act that will remove long fought for protections.
"The whole agenda is designed under this Government to protect the interests of a narrow range of stakeholders. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The gap is growing. Those that are left behind are looking for champions and they are looking for a political man o’ war and that’s what we’ve got to make the Labour Party," Mr Jones says.
He says the leadership contest will reinvigorate the party and put it on a sound footing to take on National in next year’s election.
