Good response to Ngāti Haua settlement
Ngāti Haua negotiators are pleased at the response they are getting across the Tasman to their proposed treaty settlement package.
A team has this week met with members of the central Waikato iwi living in Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.
Negotiator Willie Te Aho says reports coming back are overwhelmingly positive.
"People care about our settlement, they care about making sure the home fires are kept burning with integrity so there has been 100 percent support so far. They have got a wairua of whakapono through their tipuna Wiremu Tamihana, and that is being reflected in the generosity of support that has been shown by the people around the country and Australia as well," he says.
Voting on the $6.5 million Ngāti Haua settlement ends on June 28 and Mr Te Aho says he’s hoping for 100 percent acceptance.
