Reggae stars battle child abuse
It’s a classic kiwi song and now it’s finding a new life tackling the scourge of child abuse.
The Aotearoa Reggae All Stars version of Herbs’ Sensitive To A Smile was released today, with all profits to go to Māori child advocacy group, Te Mana Ririki.
The line up includes Che Fu, Katchafire, Tomorrow People, Sons of Zion, 1814, Ria Hall, House of Shem, Three Houses Down, Chad Chambers, NRG Rising, Majic and Tasty Brown.
Rio Panapa from Sons of Zion says the musicians wanted to raise awareness of children being hurt by domestic violence and to encourage positive parenting.
He says the Herbs hit from 1987 seemed ideal, and it was far easier to do than trying to get people together to write a new song.
A one hour music special about the Aotearoa Reggae All Stars project plays on Māori Television at 9.30pm tonight.
