Consultation to begin for new kura
The Education Ministry is about to open consultations on a new Māori school in Christchurch.
Oversight of the project to establish Te Pā ō Rakaihautu is in the hands of Associate Education Minister Pita Sharples, because relatives of Education Minister Hekia Parata are involved.
The proposal to establish the new school is being considered separately to the reorganisation of schooling in the greater Christchurch region.
The ministry backed down on plans to close or merge two existing Christchurch kura kaupapa, but it is trying to relocate one of the schools.
