Health Ministry ignored fraud tip
Pressure is growing on the Health Ministry over its response to allegations of fraud at kaupapa Maori disability services provider Te Roopu Taurima o Manukau Trust.
Health Minister Tony Ryall has asked his ministry to explain why it did not follow up a tip to its fraud hotline last December that a trust staff member was involved in inappropriate financial dealing.
The information was not passed on to the ministry-appointed auditors who were looking at the trust.
Consulting firm PWC begins a forensic audit at the trust today, and it will be looking closely at vehicle purchases and maintenance payments made to a company that appears to be a bakery.
