Polynesian Panther, Tigilau Ness on Paakiwaha
The Black Panther Movement in America celebrates 50 years in existence, it was a catalyst for Polynesian bothers and sisters in Aotearoa to establish the Polynesian Panthers.
Longstanding member Tigilau Ness says the influence on Polynesians was very strong in the 70's.
He says the movement gave them a voice and taking it to the streets to hikoi and to stand up for their rights.
Tigilau says unity between Pasifika and Maori was very strong and that can be seen when you look back to WWI and see Island nations standing alongside Maori in the Maori Battalion.
