Key record not bearing up to scrutiny – Turei
Greens co-leader Metiria Turei says Maori went backwards during John Key’s term as prime minister.
Education Minister Hekia Parata says the country is infinitely better for Mr Key’s leadership, and he has a great record of Maori participation and Maori development.
But Ms Turei says John Key ran a classic neoliberal government where tax cuts and support for corporates like Sky City took priority over issues like affordable housing and decent incomes.
"Life for Maori people in general has not improved under National, it has gone backwards and that record needs to be spelt out, especially at a time people will be saying nice things about John Key because he is going. His record on child poverty, on climate, on Maori issues, on housing, on education, on health, on all that matter the most, it has been really poor," she says.
