Maniapoto Maori Trust Board has enlisted Sir Harawira Gardiner to help it complete its settlement of historic treaty claims.
Two of its three negotiators, Nanaia Mahuta and Peter Douglas, resigned once an agreement in principle was signed in August that will deliver a $150 million settlement package.
Board chair Tiwha Bell says Sir Harawira will join remaining negotiator Mook Hohneck, with other advisors to be appointed.
He says the board is keen to maintain momentum towards reaching a deed of settlement.
