Whānau ora funds reo boosters
Language and culture are top of mind for top of the South Island iwi working with Te Waipounamu's whānau ora commissioning agency.
Te Pūtahitanga chief executive Helen Leahy says Rangitāne ki Wairau's aim was to put te reo in everyday places.
They've produced fridge magnets, prompt cards and booklets with 100 basis words, a CD and even a wānanga with language advocates Stacey and Scotty Morrison.
That project is one of the finalists in tomorrow's Māori Language Awards.
Neighbours Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō have put together a package on the world of Ngāti Apa, with Te Pūtahitanga supporting its Pā Kids marae-based after school programme, mau rākau and kura.
"Now they've got these packs which they have been able to deliver to every Ngāti Apa member and that is all around the stories, the waiata, the karakia that are particular to Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō," Ms Leahy says.
