Lifestyle clues in stroke watch

The newly appointed national Maori advsor to the stroke foundation says Maori need to be more aware of the risk factors associated with strokes and learn how to identify stroke symptoms.
It is stroke awareness week and Nita Brown says Maori are at more risk of stoke than non maori, and that has much to do with lifestyle and dietary factors.
She says it's important to encourage whanau to get more active, and to monitor the amount of salt used in the preparation of food.
"Many of us actually know what those factors are and if we can get our people moving alot more that will reduce the impact or the incidence of strokes that happen within our whanau, changing our lifestyles basically, eating better healthy nutritious kai, more vegetables, more fruit just learning all those things but reducing the amount of salt that we actually put in to our kai is really important," Ms Brown says.
