Maori moment gets global attention
The Māori Language Commission’s Māori moment promotion has made the finals of the global Reed Awards for grassroots advocacy and social campaigns.
Te Taura Whiri chief executive, Ngahiwi Apanui, says the Māori Language Week event had one in five New Zealanders stopping to celebrate te reo Māori together.
A survey taken at the end of last year found more than 8 in 10 people see te reo as something to be proud of and part of their identity as a New Zealander.
Te Taura Whiri and its digital strategy partner For Purpose are nominated in five categories: best website for issue advocacy or public affairs campaign; best action centre/ grassroots website; best international website; best overall website; and best international campaign.
