Polyfest smaller but safer
ASB Polyfest organisers are planning for a smaller festival this year because of COVID restrictions.
The Auckland secondary schools cultural competitions will be held from April 14 to 17, a month later than the usual slot.
Polyfest Trust chair Robert Solomone says there will be just four stages at the Manukau Sports Bowl instead of six, with the Pacific Island and Diversity competitions sharing a stage, with two days allocated to each.
The Māori stage will take place over four days.
In line with COVID health and safety guidelines, tickets will be sold online so attendees can avoid queues; contact tracing measures will be in place, and QR codes and hand sanitiser stations will be placed throughout the festival site.
Mr Solomone says after having to cancel last year’s events because of the initial outbreak, organisers wanted to provide an opportunity for students to perform on an ASB Polyfest stage and celebrate the festival’s 45th anniversary.
