Staunch attitude letting P cooks off hook
New Zealand First Northland candidate Shane Jones says Māori communities need to step up and report P dealers and cooks to the police.
Mr Jones took part in an anti-P hīkoi in the far north at the weekend organised by Whatuwhiwhi marae.
He says he’s heard of marae seeking trespass orders against dealers, but that’s not going far enough.
He’s frustrated by a sentiment among many Māori that they should not report criminal activities to police, which the dealers and cooks see as a sign of weakness and exploit.
"I was totally impressed by the fact they were willing to have a hīkoi but I am not going to help anyone unless we round up the genuine criminals. People that are addicted to P and are in strugglers' gully, obviously christian charity and jail and don't jail all of them but the guys who know exactly what they're doing, working with these highly sophisticated narco criminals coming back from Australia, they only belong in one place and that’s Ngāwhā."
