Hawaikirangi hui tracks changing media landscape
Whakaata Māori chief executive Shane Taurima says looming job cuts in mainstream television highlight the importance of this week’s Hawaikirangi – 2024 World Indigenous Content Conference.
Whakaata Māori is hosting about 250 delegates from Aotearoa and overseas at Manukau’s Due Drop centre today and tomorrow.
They will look at challenges facing radio, film, television and digital internet production and how they can ensure they are fit for purpose and fit for the future.
“We’re all still in TV today but we’ve moved, we’re shifting on to digital platforms. The name of the conference – World Indigenous Content Conference-Hawaikirangi – reflects that shift and where we focus primarily on content and engaging audiences,” Mr Taurima says.
He hopes some staff from TV3’s Newshub and TVNZ can attend the conference to share their stories – and all attendess extend their aroha to those affected.
