Greens warn on fast rack mining consents
Green MP Huhana Lyndon is backing a warning from outgoing co-leader James Shaw that a future Government could withdraw consents issued under the Government’s new fast track process for mining and infrastructure projects
Mr Shaw has called the law passed last week under urgency one of the most significant assaults on the environment undertaken by any government in his lifetime.
Ms Lyndon says if the Government abandons legislative norms, a future Government may follow suit.
“There’s a caution, and James Shaw has been really clear – kia tupato those of you who are going in for consents in this space and for projects that we know could really impact on our taiao and our communities. You may not be guaranteed again in the future that your consent will be approved,” she says.
