Rotorua ready to host Ahurei
The Ahurei is on this weekend, back in the city of Rotorua where the celebration of Tuhoe culture started in the 1970s.
Ahurei chair Maaka Te Moana says it's a great festival for meeting whanau and discovering new connections within the whakapapa of the iwi.
He says there has been great support from Ngati Whakaue and Te Arawa, who have opened their marae for roopu to stay, and who will powhiri on the visiting iwi to startt proceedings tomorrow morning.
It is also a chance for Tuhoe people in the sulphur city to step up.
"Our whanau in Rotorua put a tono in and the delegates all agree so it is just to see if our urban whanau can organise things I guess," Mr Te Moana says.
