Low carbon ideas sought for voyage of discover¥
A kaupapa Māori regional economic development agency is putting together what it calls Discovery Tours with an eye to encouraging adoption of low-carbon land-use options and igniting the Māori economy.
Toi Kai Rawa executive trustee, Te Horipo Karaitiana, says it are seeking interest from Bay of Plenty Māori landowners willing to share what they’re doing in industries as diverse as housing development, agriculture, aquaculture, and horticulture.
He says they work on the basis that you don’t know what you don’t know.
“The purpose of a discovery tour is not only to increase awareness but it’s also to increase the conversation amongst ourselves so that we can share what we’re doing form a whakapapa and whanaungatanga perspective. There’s a real value in that. Many of us in our businesses, we’re so focused on the day to day we forget to lift our heads and look around us,” he says.
Mr Karaitiana hopes the tours will lead to collaborations and partnerships, as well as the discovery of new options for lowering carbon emissions across all Bay Of Plenty industries.
