Te Rangihīroa honoured with new Otago residential college

The new Otago University residential college, Te Rangihīroa had a whakatau this morning, honouring it’s namesake the distinguished alumnus Sir Peter Henry Buck.
The new building replaces the original Te Rangi Hiroa College, which is now known as 192 Castle College and comes more than 50 years since the university’s last purpose-built college, UniCol.
Ngāti Mutunga chair Jamie Tuuta, says having Te Rangihīroa acknowledged in such a way, as the first New Zealand university Māori medical graduate, is a privilege.
“Those students that are housed in this college can come to understand about him and what a fantastic sort of role model and legacy that he has led not only in te ao Māori but New Zealand and the Pacific.
Te Rangihīroa will begin housing 450 students from February next year.
