Mahi tahi answer to anti co-governance rally

The Greens’ Northland candidate, Huhana Lyndon, says it was good to see Māori and Pakeha standing together to protest Whangarei man Julian Batchelor’s Stop Co-Governance kaupapa.
Mr Batchelor brought his roadshow back to his home town and drew an audience of about 20 – with more than 10 times that number outside protesting.
Ms Lyndon says she was concerned at the misinformation given out to the mainly elderly audience – but heartened by the kotahitanga outside.
“We need a time of unity right now and doing the right thing to work together for a better New Zealand and what I saw and what I felt in terms of that kotahitanga and a beautiful wairua, a waiata and korero, it showed the wider community, we’re all on the same waka. We want better outcomes and we want to mahi tahi on things unlike him and his cohorts who were in the hall,” she says.
Huhana Lyndon says mana whenua of Te Waiareki were blocked when they tried to go into Whareora Hall, and she she’s upset at what she saw as a heavy-handed police response.
