Minister Jackson, Māori must be realistic about Thursday’s budget.
Minister for Māori Economic Development Hon Willie Jackson says Māori will have to be realistic about Thursday’s budget allocation.
“I know expectations are high, but I think our people have to be a bit realistic because it’s a really tough time, we’ve had cyclones, high prices.” says Minister Jackson
Last year’s Māori budget package was around $1.252.9 billion. With budget allocations from 2017 to 2022, the total distribution to te ao Māori is in excess of $3 billion. This is the most monies ever allocated to Māori by any Government.
Inspite of the cautionary warning Minister Jackson says he’s comfortable with Thursday’s Budget and he thinks Māori will be ok.
The Budget will be announced by the Minister of Finance Grant Robertson at 2pm Thursday 18 May.
