Flavell too busy for alliance talks
Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell has ruled out an alliance with Hone Harawira's Mana movement and has little appetite for talks.
The Mana leader has been making conciliatory noises since his election defeat in Te Tai Tokerau, and there have been calls from supporters of both parties for them to work more closely together.
But Mr Flavell says Mr Harawira had already chose to form an alliance with a group of people the Maori Party has nothing in common with.
"Do we talk? Of course we talk. Is there room for activism? Of course there is. It's good to have the activism element to keep us honest but you also have to deliver some goodies at some point, deliver some benefits for our people and that's what I'm focused on so if those meetings happen, they happen but what I am focused on is three years of working as hard as I can to get the very best for our people while I am in this position, and we'll see what happens from there," he says.
A judicial recount of Te Tai Tokerau votes requested by Mr Harawira is continuing today.
