Luxon bad match for Māori
Māori Party president John Tamihere says the party is no longer interested in working with National on the terms offered.
National Party leader Chris Luxon this week ruled out working with Te Pāti Māori even if it needed its support to become Government.
Mr Tamihere says National has made a decision that Maori should never be at the main decision-making table.
“Never, and if they do let you in the door you are in the door as a tag on cabinet minister but you don’t get to make any of the decisions, you’re told what is going to happen in your ministry, so those days are over and we look at them eye to eye,” he says.
Mr Tamihere says the Maori Party tries to practice its tikanga by affirming it, which its MPs were doing when they accompanied former Labour Party minister Meka Whaitiri into the House this week.
