Public challenge helps creative drive
Māori Music Awards winner Troy Kingi says telling the world he intends to produce 10 albums in 10 years has helped keep him working.
The Northland-based musician picked up the best male artist tohu at this year's online-only awards, as well as the prize for best roots album with Holy Colony Burning Acres and best video for Ethiopia.
He says the accolades tell him he is on the right path.
"Sometimes I question this whole thing I am doing – 10 years, 10 different genres, 10 albums. I could have said nothing and just done that but I feel I need that sort of push to get me going, otherwise I would just sit," Kingi says.
