Kia mataara! Red alert warning
RED ALERT WARNING FOR NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL AND GISBORNE
Warnings upgraded to red alert with heavy rain and strong wind for Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Gisborne.
There are currently 19 severe weather warnings and watches. There are reports of power outages in some areas of Auckland and Northland. Residents in Coromandel have been asked to think about leaving early because the area is under the strongest red rain warning.
Air New Zealand has advised for those booked on flights to check for cancellations. Auckland Harbour Bridge is subject to lane and speed limits.
States of local emergency remain in place for Auckland and Coromandel due to severe weather.

The National Emergency Management Agency has stood up its National Coordination Centre to support the response and coordinate any central government support that may be required.

Tairāwhiti Civil Defence Emergency Management warn of dangerous river conditions and significant flooding. Slips and floodwaters are likely to disrupt travel, making some roads impassable and possibly isolating communities.
Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Expect 300 to 450 mm of rain inland and 200-250mm about the coast. The heaviest rain is likely on Monday. Peak intensities of 10 to 15 mm/h, 25mm/h during Monday afternoon and evening. Note further rain should continue for the rest of Tuesday, and the warning could be extended.
