Ngarewa-Packer set for second Te Tai Hauāuru run
Te Pati MĀori used its appearance at Ratana Pa to announce co-leader Debbie Ngarewa Packer will again contest Te Tai Hauāuru in October’s general election.
Her chances may depend on whether incumbent Adrian Rurawhe, who is now the Speaker of Parliament, chooses to run again or opts to go on the list.
Party president John Tamihere is confident Ms Ngarewa-Packer can take back the seat previously held by party founder Tariana Turia, who first won it as a Labour candidate.
He says her efforts in Parliament have been outstanding.
Ms Ngarewa-Packer says as a list MP she has been able to make progress on kaupapa such as healthcare, seabed mining, Māori wards, inequality, racism, housing and freshwater.
