Tawhiao turns tarps into digital art
Artist Tracey Tawhiao says she wants to give a new perspective on how an artificially intelligent future might look.
She says her new show began life as plain old tarpaulins which she turned into something unique.
“To me it’s what I imagined if we had space age tools as Maori and we were navigating space what would that look like and I made these things out of tarpaulins and photographed them and digitised that into and then digitised landscapes to imagine how these things would look in the future,” Tawhiao says.
Taputapu Ātea is now on show at Tautai Gallery on Auckland’s Karangahape Road.
