Point of Order probes millennial politics
A Māori millennial and self-confessed political junkie believes her new show can wake up her peers to the excitement of politics.
Point of Order is a Backbenchers-styled romp featuring lobbyist Holly Bennett, of Te Arawa, and friend Hamish Smith wrangling a panel of MPs before a live audience of 25 to 40-year-olds.
She says there’s too much intolerance of political ideas, rather than people sharing robust debate and learning something about it.
“So what we want is a space for millennials to come together, to look at these hard political topics and both challenge and be challenged by political ideas,” Ms Bennett says.
The first episode to be filmed in Parnell on August 17 features some of the parliament’s youngest MPs – Labour’s Arena Williams, ACT’s Brooke van Velden, the Green’s Ricardo Menéndez March, and Simeon Brown from National – talking about how Aotearoa can best secure its recovery from the pandemic.
