Kerekere rules out Shaw challenge

Green MP Elizabeth Kerekere has ruled herself out of the party’s leadership election.
That would increase the odds of James Shaw easily winning back the role, which he lost when a minority of party activists mounted a procedural challenge at the weekend annual general meeting.
Dr Kerekere says the whole Green caucus was surprised by the decision of the AGM to re-open nominations.
She says the incident shows MPs need to acknowledge and listen to members who have clearly signalled a desire for accountability from the co-leaders.
She says the election presents an opportunity for any and all candidates who may run to clearly state the progressive, left-wing values which are the only way to achieve the critical system shifts needed to uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi, address climate change and inequality, and protect biodiversity.
