Mt Smart win boon for embattled Warriors

A triumph for interim coach Stacey Jones is how one veteran sports commentator is hailing the return of the New Zealand Warriors to Mt Smart stadium after 59 away games.
The Warriors trounced West Tigers 22-2 – yesterday in their first game on home turf in three years.
Ken Laban says embattled the team cops a lot of flak – and a lot of love – but the enthusiasm of the Mt Smart crowd could be seen as a voted of confidence the coach can deliver.
“He’s a popular, iconic figure in the game and he’s enjoyed great success so for him to get a win of that magnitude in front of a packed house and they’ve had 59 away games over the past three years so it was a magnificent homecoming. Congratulations to the Warriors and their entire organisation,” he says.
