Māori Literature Trust takes world view of talent

Māori Literature Trust chair Robyn Bargh says it’s important new writers learn how to get their manuscripts up to international standards.
The trust has selected six kaituhi Māori for its Te Papa Tupu mentorship programme.
Over the six-month programme they will work with established authors and editors to complete work for publication.
“Once you publish a work, then your work is compared with novels and other books from writers from all around the world. Once you are published you are going on an international stage so it’s not as if you were just publishing for your whanau or local community, it is an international audience,” Ms Bargh says.
Finding time to write every day can be a huge barrier for new writers trying to hone their craft.
