Marae health clinic under pressure

A south Auckland marae says pressure on its health team is growing as Covid recedes in people’s minds.
Papakura Marae chief executive Tony Kake says demand for Covid-19 vaccinations has fallen off, but the team is still needed to try to lift rates of influenza and measles, mumps and rubella immunisation.
That work will be shifted out of the health clinic to the vaccination centre.
“That will relieve a bit of pressure from the clinic really because they are under the pump -two years of people who have put stuff off or have been managing virtually, they’ve all started flooding in, Mr Kake says.
Papakura Marae is trying to recruit more nurses and another GP or two.
There were 4884 new cases of Covid-19 reported yesterday and 48786 cases in the community.
