Sisters of Compassion go for bicultural management team

NZ Catholic Bishops Conference adviser Deacon Danny Karatea-Goddard has been appointed co-chief executive Māori of the Sisters of Compassion Group, the religious order founded by Meri Hōhepa Mother Suzanne Aubert.
He will work alongside Dr Chris Gallavin, who was appointed in March 2021.
He’s also Vicar for Māori with the Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington.
Sister Margaret Anne Mills says the appointment builds on the bicultural vision of order founder Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert, especially in her work with Māori at Jerusalem on the Whanganui River in 1880.
She says Mother Aubert’s work is of pivotal importance in the journey toward true partnership in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Deacon Karatea-Goddard says being able to serve the Sisters of Compassion whānau is a privilege, and he has many personal and whānau connections with the order.
