Principals sidestep anti-vax fight

Te Taitokerau Principals’ Association says schools in the region are happy to help with Covid-19 vaccination programmes, but it’s up to communities and the district health board to make them happen.
President Pat Newman says reports schools are shying away from clinics because of threats from anti-vaxxers are inaccurate.
He says most of the schools in the north are in small and often isolated communities where the principal and teachers also live.
“We didn’t want our small schools, and the principals and teachers being put into that situation of ”them and us’ and destroying years of good relationships in communities and that is why we went to the DHB and with some understanding worked out the deal we did,”
Mr Newman says Principals provided the DHB with the names and contacts for all the marae and other community facilities around Taitokerau where they can hold clinics.
