Jackson’s ideas a living legacy

The late Moana Jackson has been hailed as an intellectual giant who left a living legacy for Māori and Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Thousands of people attended the tangi at Matahiwi Marae in Heretaunga for the legal and constitutional scholar and activist.
Māori Party vice president John Tamihere says Mr Jackson was able to put across his ideas without indulging in a contest of personalities.
Those ideas found their way into reports and presentations, including the Matike Mai report on constitutional change that has been adopted by the Māori Party as policy.
“Ideas live forever and that’s why people like Moana Jackson live forever because they committed what they were about into writing and that writing has taught new generations. It’s about keeping those aspirations of our right to self-determination and self-management alive,” Mr Tamihere says.
