Covid trace slump shows public moving on
Urban Māori leader John Tamihere says the public is voting with its feet – or its phones – over Covid restrictions.
The Waipareira chief executive says despite 3.7 million New Zealanders being signed up for the Covid tracer app, fewer than 3 per cent used it over the weekend.
He says the official number of Covid cases are a joke because only a small percentage of people doing self-administered tests load the results into the tracing system.
The community is saying that if you are fully vaccinated and boosted, it’s time to get on with life.
“We’ve had a gutsful and of the over-medicalisation, over-pharmaceuticalisation and the over-politicisation of Covid so what’s we’re looking for now is a steer going forward,” he says.
Mr Tamihere says the Government needs to manage the reopening of the borders so it encourages the flow into the country of skilled workers, and he’s also like to see a tax on unoccupied or ghost houses as a way to tackle the housing supply.
