Union members at parliament harassed by protestors
A union organiser says E Tū members in the parliament precinct are fed up with the harassment from anti-mandate protesters.
Anaru Ryall says members include cleaners and security staff, who are unable to work from home, as well as journalists and many Labour and Green MPs.
The union surveyed members about the events of the past two weeks since the convoy arrived in the capital.
“Nearly half of respondents reported they had been verbally harassed on the way to work, 6 per cent of respondents had been physically harassed and over 80 per cent knew someone who had been, so that’s a major concern. In saying that, over 90 per cent of our members supported the police action this week to control the situation a little bit more,” he says.
E Tū has written to the Police acknowledging their work to contain the protest and asking for a meeting on the next steps, and it has also written to Speaker Trevor Mallard with a similar request.
