ACT’s justice spokesperson is backing the charging of anti-mandate protestors for trespassing on Parliament Grounds.

Nicole McKee says ACT supports the right to protest, but not when it involves threats, violence and damage to property.

She hopes yesterday’s 122 arrests won’t clog the courts – and that they send the message.

“Who really wants to get stuck into that system? Who wants to have a charge that stays on their record forever, which could possibly prevent them from going into other countries? The whole point is the message has been heard. We understand it,” Ms McKee says.

ACT wants to see widespread availability of rapid antigen tests so people who don’t want to be vaccinated can show they are safe to enter premises.
