Māori acts dominate Music awards


L.A.B. went from strength to strength in this year’s Aotearoa Music Awards, doubling their Tui count from two last year to four – taking Album of The Year for their fourth album L.A.B. IV, Single of the Year for ‘Why Oh Why’, Best Group and The Best Roots Artist.
Singer/songwriter TEEKS has also made his mark in 2021 won three Tūī for Best Solo Artist, Best Soul/RnB Artist and Best Māori Artist.
The stars of Māori Television series Te Nūtube, 11-year-old Atareta Milne and her cousin Te Haakura Ihimaera-Manley, who is just 9, won the People’s Choice Award and Te Māngai Pāho Mana Reo Award for the singe Peke.
The Best Pop Artist tohu went to Benee, and Six60 were the Highest Selling Artist for 2021 and also won the Radio Airplay award for their single ‘Fade Away’.
