Standardised learning on Stanford curriculum
The Education Minister Erica Stanford is putting a standardised curriculum at the heart of her plan to lift achievement.
Erica Standford says declining achievement statistics clearly show the school system is not delivering for all students.
Turning it around means making fundamental changes, including getting back to basics.
She says her plan has been developed with front line professionals including teachers, principals and specialist staff.
“The change starts with ensuring schools and kura are provided with a knowledge-rich curriculum right up to year 13 so students have access to the same important learning regardless of where they live, their teachers, where they go to school,” Ms Stanford says.
Her six priorities are:
• Establishing a knowledge-rich curriculum
• Evidence-based instruction in literacy and mathematics.
• Consistent modes of monitoring student progress and achievement.
• Improved teacher training.
• Targeting effective learning support interventions for students with additional needs.
• Using data and evidence to drive consistent improvement in achievement. .
