Little bows to history at Taipa


The Government is buying a contentious land block at Taipa for use in an eventual settlement with Ngāti Kahu.
Iwi members have lifted their occupation of the 0.8 hectare coastal site, which they started when it was put up for sale five weeks ago.
The block, originally known as Maheatai, was a landing place for both Kupe and the waka Māmaru.
Owner Todd Male says he wanted to see it back in the hands of the iwi.
Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Andrew Little, who travelled to the far north on Friday to announce the deal, says given its historical importance he was able to use a fund available for purchases of land with special character or features
