Schools reopen for NCEA prep as Covid cases fluctuate
There were 60 new community cases of Covid 19 today, 56 in Auckland and four in Waikato, including two in Te Awamutu which are as yet unlinked to earlier cases.
Because the outbreak is now more disbursed, public health authorities are no longer highlighting suburbs of interest and will instead concentrate on areas with higher positivity rates where the risk of unidentified cases is higher.
People in New Lynn and the North Shore suburbs of Rosedale, Redvale, and Bayswater – either vaccinated or unvaccinated – are asked to get tested as soon as possible if they have even mild symptoms.
Meanwhile, Covid Response and Education Minister Chris Hipkins says schools in Level 3 regions will reopen after Labour Day for senior secondary school students to prepare for end of year exams.
That includes years 11 to 13.
He says learners in this age group are able to be vaccinated and are required to wear masks, and staff and volunteers working on site will need a negative test before attending.
Staff and volunteers in all regions need to receive their first vaccine by November 15.
