Crowdfunding not needed for Covid response
The Prime Minister says there should be no need for providers to fundraise for mobile clinics.
A crowdfunding campaign this week raised $123,000 for a van to take vaccines around remote parts of the East Coast.
Jacinda Ardern says she was surprised at that, because when she was in Ruatōria earlier this month she saw a mobile clinic Te Puni Kōkiri had given Ngāti Porou Hauora, along with two horse floats and a bus also fitted out for the vaccination drive.
“When I saw that Givealittle page I got straight on to it and said no one should be having to fundraise, we have the resource, it’s just about making sure that when communities say ‘we want to do it this way,’ that we are there to support them so we got straight on to it. Ngāti Porou Hauora had been involved,” she says.
She expects to see a lot more mobile clinics around the East Coast.
