Patients who were in Middlemore Hospital’s emergency department at the same time as two people with COVID-19 have been moved to an isolation ward.
The 34 were among 66 patients identified as close contacts of the two cases, who were screened after seeking treatment for issues unrelated to coronavirus.
One is now in the hospital’s coronavirus ward while the other is self-discharged and is now being managed by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service.
The hospital says all staff were wearing the appropriate PPE gear so were not required to stand down.
