Walter Wells to chair community fund
Professional director and former Te Puni Kōkiri Northland regional manager Walter Wells has been appointed chair of Foundation North, the community trust for Auckland and Northland.
Mr Wells, who has connections to Ngāti Kuri, Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi, and Ngātiwai, is just the second Māori to hold the role after Kevin Prime, who chaired the trust from 2003 to 2009.
He says it has important mahi to do towards enhancing the lives of people across the rohe, with its focus on increased equity, social inclusion, regenerative environment and community support.
The trust, which was formed more than 30 years ago with an endowment from the sale of the community’s shares in the Auckland Savings Bank, invests about $45 million a year in community projects and grants.
