Karakia to start marae vax session
Manurewa MP Arena Williams says she feels a great sense of relief after getting a Covid-19 vaccination at Manurewa Marae's health clinic this morning.
Ms Williams qualified for Group 2 of the wider vaccination programme because she lives with her father, former broadcaster Haare Williams, who is in an at-risk group.
"I brought my dad in. We were the first appointments up, and Matua Rangi McLean gave us a mihi whakatau. We had karakia together and the words of the karakia rang out around the marae for everyone waiting for their vaccines. It's so special to be able to do that for our kaumātua and our community, to not only do it in a place where we are comfortable but to also say the words of the karakia," she says.
