Turuki Healthcare has teamed up with Pūkaki Marae in Mangere to trial a new mobile vaccination centre.
Turuki chief executive Te Puea Winiata says 150 whānau members were given the COVID-19 vaccination on Sunday in a process in which the marae brought its people in and managed manaakitanga and information sharing.
She says many whānau may not take the time or have the ability to attend a super vaccination centre like those being set up across Auckland, but offering the vaccine on the marae is a way for whānau to come together and celebrate getting vaccinated together.
Marae spokesperson Karen Akamiria Wilson says Pūkaki made sure whānau had the information they needed to make informed decisions.
The Turuki mobile clinic has the capacity to vaccinate up to 200 people per day.
Turuki will provide vaccinations to its enrolled population of 13,000 people as well as support eligible whānau and rangatahi over 16 years of age through its school-based health team services.
That will reach many whānau who are not enrolled with a Primary health care provider.
