15-year-old deportee well managed

Children’s Commissioner Andrew Becroft says Australia’s deportation of a 15-year-old boy is a disturbing development.
Oranga Tamariki has put two of its staff into managed isolation so they can offer 24-hour support to the teenager.
Commissioner Becroft says the deportation of an unaccompanied minor would appear to be a breach of international conventions on human rights and children’s rights that Australia has signed up to.
"I'm proud New Zealand has stood up and said we'll put a good plan in place. He's in managed isolation. He's with approved caregivers. He's been well supported. He's doing well I'm told. Oranga Tamariki and the police have acted well. And that's my concern as Children's Commissioner – what is in the interests of the child. It's not to play handball with them and pass the parcel. What a terrible message to give a 15-year-old," he says.
