Anglican Church loses astute shepherd
Former Anglican Bishop of Te Taitokerau Waiohau Rui (Ben) Te Haara died this morning at the Bay of Islands.
Bishop Te Haara was appointed in 1992, when the church adopted its Three Tikanga Constitution.
Friend Anne Candy says he was an astute and visionary Bishop with an all-encompassing grace and sharp wit that made one feel comfortable in his presence.
After his retirement in 2001 he mentored current bishop Te Kito Pikaahu and was a respected spiritual presence within the three houses of Laity, Clergy and Bishops of Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa.
His tangi will first be at Ngāwhā, moving to Rāwhiti after a couple of days.
