More support offered to young families
Young families in the Lakes District Health Board area will get extra support under a new pilot scheme, Tiaki Whānau.
Well Child Tamariki Ora service provider Manaaki Ora Tipu Ora is being funded to deliver culturally appropriate, whānau-based care.
Up to 40 whānau will each be assigned a kaitiaki or key worker who may be a child health nurse or social worker, backed by a multidisciplinary team.
The support can include health care, mental health support, help to access social services, housing or education, or helping whānau learn more about parenting and child development.
Health Minister Andrew Little says Lakes DHB has a high proportions of young parents, Māori and Pacific whānau, and whānau who live with high socioeconomic needs.
Similar pilots will launch in Counties Manukau DHB and Hauora Tairāwhiti early next year.
