Fast internet rolled out for Taitokerau marae
A sleepy Northland community is celebrating a speed boost.
A grant from the provincial Growth Fund has allowed provider Gravity Internet to upgrade the satellite connection it installed in 2017 at Tau Henare Marae in Pipiwai.
That means residents of the locality slap in the middle of the mid-north can now get high speed wifi.
Te Horo Trust chair Delaraine Armstrong says low cost broadband internet access in rural communities bridges the digital divide and eases many social and economic inequities.
"If we want to create our own economies at home on the kainga, on the whenua, and we do, then we need to have good quality internet connectivity," she says.
In all 45 Tai Tokerau marae signed on for the PGF's marae connectivity programme.
